SHUCK GETS EXTENSION ON VMI DEAL

VMI doesn't play its first game until Sept. 4, but the season got off on the right foot Friday for coach Jim Shuck.

The school announced that Shuck has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension. His current five-year contract expires at the end of this season. Financial terms of the new agreement were not disclosed.

"Under Jim Shuck's leadership, we have become much more competitive in the Southern Conference, undoubtedly the toughest [NCAA Division] I-AA football league in the nation," said Davis Babb, VMI's athletic director. " . . . This contract demonstrates our confidence in him, his leadership ability and our commitment to the football program."

The Keydets are 13-30-1 in Shuck's four seasons as head coach.
