NAMES & CHANGES

Convention bureau sets leaders

GERALD CARTER, general manager of Holiday Inn Tanglewood, has been named president of the board of the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The tourism-promotion agency also has elected JAMES SEARS, general manager and president of Center in the Square, vice president; ROBERT ARCHER, general manager of Blue Ridge Beverage, secretary; and E.C WARREN, owner and manager of the Roanoker Restaurant, treasurer.

Other executive committee members are RICHARD WELLS, publisher, Leisure Publishing; BRIAN WISHNEFF, economic developer, city of Roanoke; and TIM GUBALA, economic developer, Roanoke County.

The 22-member bureau is responsible for tourism and convention development in the Roanoke Valley.

\ ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

\ STUART W. CONNOCK of Charlottesville has joined the corporate advisory council for the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Authority. Connock was Virginia's secretary of finance from 1984-1990. He also was acting commissioner for the Virginia Department of Taxation.

\ FINANCIAL SERVICES

\ ROBIN R. KAHL has joined Ferguson, Andrews & Associates as an investment broker. Kahl has 13 years experience in the financial services field and previously was an internal wholesaler/broker for Dominion Bank.

\ HOTELS

\ SUSAN K. SIMMONS has joined the Roanoke Airport Marriott hotel as director of catering. Simmons previously was with Krisch Hotels' Holiday Inn Central in Roanoke. She also worked for Hunting Hills Country Club and the Shenandoah Club, and formerly was employed by the Marriott as banquet and convention manager.

\ LAW

\ J. RICHARD PATTERSON II has opened a general practice law firm. He formerly was employed by Dominion Bank, and before that was an associate attorney with Fox, Wooten & Hart. Patterson has experience in estate planning, estate administration, benefits/ERISA, small business and real estate law. \

MANUFACTURING

\ RICHARD W. WINTERICH has been appointed chief financial officer at JM Clipper Corp., which designs and produces custom-engineered polymer products for industrial uses. His responsibilities include corporate finance, accounting, management information systems, human resources and administration. Before his appointment, Winterich was director of finance for the Square D Company in Raleigh, N.C.

\ MEDICINE

Roanoke Neurological Associates has announced the association of\ DR. K. ALVIN LLOYD. He holds a medical degree from the University of North Carolina and completed his neurology residency at the Medical College of Virginia.

\ DR. TIMOTHY S. MORGAN has joined Drs. Blum, Newman, Blackstock & Associates Optometrists. He will work in offices in Lynchburg and Lexington.
