MAN ORDERED TO CARRY PHOTOS OF BOY HE KILLED

A man who pleaded guilty to killing a 14-year-old with his pickup truck was ordered by a judge to carry photographs of the boy at all times during five years on probation.

Terrance Hughes also must spend 204 days in jail and speak publicly to students "on what this has done to your life and the lives of others," Sarpy County District Judge Ronald Reagan said Friday.

The boy, Nathan Ness, was walking to a grocery store along a stretch of road that had no sidewalk when he was struck Jan. 29 in Springfield.

Hughes, 47, left the scene, but he returned and was arrested. He pleaded guilty to motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. Authorities said he was drunk at the time of the accident.
