DRUG DEAL BLAMED IN FATAL SHOOTING

A Martinsville man was in custody shortly after a Washington, D.C., man was shot and killed Saturday night over a suspected drug deal, according to the Henry County Sheriff's Deparment.

Chad Lashane Price, 19, is charged with homicide and use of a firearm in the commission of a homicide, said Sgt. Connie Cox. Price is being held on $100,000 bond.

Michael Norman Goggins, 31, died at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County shortly after the 7 p.m. shooting, Cox said.

According to police, the two men had apparently been arguing for several days over money, and the argument turned lethal when they met in a parking lot Saturday evening. The suspect allegedly shot three times into Goggins' vehicle with a .357-caliber Magnum, Cox said.

Goggins gave rescue workers a name and a description of his assailant's vehicle before he died, she said. Police apprehended Price about an hour later.

Police found about 18 packets of suspected crack cocaine in Goggins' vehicle, Cox said.
