LABOR BOARD SEEKS RESTRICTIONS ON UMW

The National Labor Relations Board is seeking an injunction against the United Mine Workers to limit picket activity in southern West Virginia.

In its petition filed in U.S. District Court, the board cited 54 alleged incidents of picket-line violence it says occurred at mines owned by Arch Mineral Corp. of St. Louis and Hobet Mining Inc. of Madison. The petition alleges the incidents include shots fired at Arch security guards in Logan County on June 18-19 and the burning of a bridge at a mine in Wylo, Logan County.
