RADFORD-FAIRLAWN DAILY BREAD TRANSPORTATION

Free transportation to Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread will start Wednesday, thanks to a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Seven pickup points in Radford and Fairlawn will make the program available to people without transportation.

The Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread offers free, home-cooked meals to people who are hungry, unemployed, on a limited income or in need of company. Shuttle service from Fairlawn and points in Radford will be available Mondays through Fridays - except holidays - to the program's Radford meal site, the Church of God in Christ on Russell Avenue.

The pickup points and times are:

River Bend Trailer Park, Peppers Ferry Road, entrance, 11 a.m.

McGhee Trailer Park, Belspring Road, 11:05

Alleghany Apartments, Norwood Street, entrance, 11:20 a.m.

Fairfax Village, Fairfax Street, entrance, 11:25 a.m.

New River Gardens, Jeffries Street, near the office, 11:35 a.m.

New River Overlook, in front of the building, 11:40 a.m.

Rustic Village on Staples Street, by the log building, 11:45 a.m.

The van will follow the same timetable each day. The return trip will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Begun about a year ago, Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread feeds dozens of meals each day and works with volunteers in food preparation, greeting, serving and cleaning up. The acting program director is Elizabeth Mills.

To volunteer, or for more information, call 639-0290 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
