OBIT OVERSTREET, LUTHER EMMETT
OVERSTREET, Luther Emmett, 74, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, September
11, 1993, in the Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. He was born July 21,
1919, in Bedford County, a son of the late Otey S. Overstreet and Jessie
Updike Overstreet. He was a veteran of World War II, a retired textile worker
and farmer, and was a member of the Quaker Baptist Church. He is survived by
his wife, Ruby Leftwich Overstreet; a daughter and son-in-law, Alma O. and
Linwood A. Blankenship, Bedford; two brothers, Winston Overstreet, Richmond;
Mahlon Overstreet, Bedford; a grandson, Emmette Kelly Blankenship, Bedford;
two granddaughters, Tracy Lynn Blankenship, Ellen Nanette Blankenship, both of
Bedford; three great-grandchildren, Kristen, Diana and Eilleen Blankenship.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 14, 1993, at 2 p.m. from
the Quaker Baptist Church, by the Rev. Lewis Garst. Interment will follow in
the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends September 14, 1993, from
7 to 9 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, and request that those wishing to
make memorials consider the Moneta Rescue Squad or the American Heart
Association.
