OBIT DEWITT, ROYAL PAUL
DeWITT, Royal Paul, Staff Sergeant (Ret.), 73, of Route 5, Martinsville
(Snow Creek Community), died Sunday September 12, 1993, at the Veterans
Administration Medical Center, Salem. He was born May 3, 1920, in Franklin
County, the son of the late William R. and Belva Lester DeWitt. Mr. DeWitt
retired from military service, after serving for twenty-one years, seeing
action in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the
D.A.V. of Martinsville, and V.F.W. Post 10840, Penhook. He is survived by his
daughter, Grace E. DeWitt of Martinsville; one brother, John DeWitt of
Martinsville; six sisters, Elizabeth Patterson, Lillian Barbour, Barbara
DeWitt, Lucy DeWitt, all of Martinsville; Lorene Coleman of Sydnorsville, and
Mamie Patterson of Baltimore, Md. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, September 15, 1993, at Lynch Chapel, Rocky Mount, by Rev. Berlin
Hanks.Interment with full military honors will follow in the DeWitt Family
Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lynch Funeral Home,
where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggests
that memorials be given to the Snow Creek Rescue Squad or the Snow Creek Fire
Department.
