ROANOKER ROLLS TO TITLE IN VINTON

Roanoker Richard Casey took on the big boys and won Sunday at the Vinton Bowling Center.

Casey rolled a 246 in the final match to upset Professional Bowlers' Association national touring pro Guppy Troup and win the 10th Coca-Cola Classic Southern Regional PBA Open.

Casey, the author of numerous 300 games and long considered one of the area's best, picked up $3,000 for the triumph.

Troup, who shot 235 in the final, earned $1,600 for second place. Troup, of Taylorsville, N.C., won the tournament in 1984.

John Tragert of Germantown, Md., finished third and won $1,200. Tragert lost to Troup 233-229 in a semifinal of the television-style roll-off.

Dennis Jacques of Princeton, N.J., was fourth, losing to Tragert 228-180. Dennis Reale of Philadelphia finished fifth with a 238-226 loss to Tragert.
