BLACKSBURG WOMAN DEAD AFTER CAR-TRUCK COLLISION

A Blacksburg woman died Thursday after the car she was driving collided with a dump truck, police said.

Emily S. Bowles, 46, died en route to Roanoke Memorial Hospital after the 8:05 a.m. accident at the intersection of U.S. 460 and Toms Creek Road.

She was a third-grade teacher at Christiansburg Elementary School.

She leaves a husband, Michael W. Bowles, and two teen-aged children.

The truck driver, David Allen Conroy, 28, of Pilot, was not injured.

Bowles, who entered the intersection from the Blacksburg side of Toms Creek Road, was headed to a workshop at the School Board office in Christiansburg, police said.

The truck, loaded with gravel, was westbound on U.S. 460.

No charges had been filed, said Blacksburg Police Captain William Brown.

He said there have been a number of serious accidents at the intersection.

Bowles was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital by Blacksburg Rescue Squad members, police said. She died on the way to Roanoke Memorial via air ambulance.
