8 S.W. VA. COUNTIES NAMED DRY DISASTERS

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared eight Southwest Virginia counties disaster areas because of the summer drought, Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, announced Friday.

The counties are Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington and Wise.

The designation makes family-size farms eligible to be considered for low-interest emergency Farmers Home Administration loans. Further information can be obtained from county extension agents.
