NAMES & CHANGES

Humphries promoted at Carter

Carter Machinery Co. Inc. has promoted JOHN HUMPHRIES to general sales manager for the construction division of the Salem-based distributor of earth-moving equipment. He will be responsible for all of Carter's sales and rentals of new machines as well as the retail sales of used machines.

Humphries, a 14-year veteran of the construction equipment industry in Virginia, joined Carter Machinery in 1991. His most recent position was construction sales manager.

Carter Machinery has 19 offices throughout Virginia and southern West Virginia.

ARCHITECTURE

\ J. EVERETTE FAUBER III, president of the Forest-based Fauber Architects, was recently appointed coordinator of the 1994 Architecture Registration Examination Committee, Division B: Site Design-Graphic, of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. The committee annually prepares the national exam for individuals seeking an architectural license.

Fauber received his bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Virginia. He is on the Building Code and Appeals Board of Bedford County, the Greater Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce and the Bedford Chamber of Commerce. He recently completed two terms on the Junior Achievement board of directors and is chairman of the Bedford Community Health Foundation.

BANKING

CHARLES C. PASCHALL has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of Tazewell National Bank, effective Jan. 1. He succeeds JAMES R. WHEELING, who will become president and chief executive officer of Premier Bankshares Corp., parent company of Tazewell National Bank.

Before joining Tazewell National, Paschall was employed with Flat Top National Bank of Bluefield and Atlantic National Bank of Jacksonville, Fla. He is president of the Bluefield chapter of the American Institute of Banking and is on the state committee of A.I.B. He is on the board of trustees of Bluefield College and is a member of the executive committee of the United Way of the Virginias.

\ C. ROYCE HOUGH, formerly executive vice president of corporate banking for Dominion Bankshares Corp. in Roanoke, has moved to Winston-Salem, N.C., to become executive vice president of corporate banking and product development for Southern National Bank.

Hough previously spent 20 years in Winston-Salem with Wachovia Bank.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

STUART L. LITVIN, executive director of the Rockbridge Area Economic Development Commission, has been elected treasurer of the Virginia Economic Developers Association.

HOTELS

MATTHEW CONGLETON has been named executive chef at the Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel in downtown Roanoke. He is responsible for the hotel's catering functions as well as for Traditions Restaurant, which features historic Virginia cuisine.

MEDICINE

Dr. ROBERT S. CREEKMORE of Roanoke has been named a fellow of the American College of Radiology. Selected for his outstanding contributions to the field of radiology, Creekmore was named as one of 112 new fellows by the college's Board of Chancellors.

NONPROFITS

SHARE Virginia has named SHARON WITT a host manager of the community-based food distribution program. The Roanoke native will will work with host organizations in Roanoke, Salem and Danville; and the counties of Bedford, Henry, Franklin, Pittsylvania, Craig and Botetourt, serving approximately 1,000 families each month.

ORGANIZATIONS

KRISTA L. HOLLOMAN has been named special events manager for Downtown Roanoke Inc. She will have the primary responsibility for the planning and implementation of the organization's 14 annual special events and festivals, as well as coordination of its cooperative retail activities.

The International Credit Association of the Roanoke Valley has installed new officers: HUGH F. DALTON JR., Syndicated Collection Agency, president; JEANETTE SMITH, Crestar Bank, vice president; NAOMI CRIGGER, Finks Jewelers, treasurer; and JOYCE ARGABRIGHT, Roanoke Times & World-News, secretary.

RETAIL

Leed's Music Centers has elected GEORGE ROBERT CHERNAULT vice president for the company's band and orchestral division. E. DAVID COOK was elected vice president for the Danville region; GARY LACKEY was elected vice president for the Martinsville and Collinsville region; JAMES R. RUEL was elected vice president for the Roanoke Valley region; LISA VERNON was elected assistant corporate secretary; and IRENE BLACK was elected vice president for finance and was re-elected corporate secretary. MARK BLACK will continue as president, general counsel and treasurer. The company operates stores in Danville, Lynchburg, Martinsville and Roanoke, and plans to open a new store in the New River Valley in November.

TRANSPORTATION

Norfolk Southern Corp. has promoted STEPHEN C. TOBIAS to senior vice president-operations with responsibility for the engineering, mechanical, and transportation departments. JAMES W. McCLELLAN, a vice president in the company's mechanical department, was elected vice president-strategic planning to succeed Tobias. POWELL F. SIGMON, an assistant vice president in the mechanical department, was elected to the new position of vice president-safety, environmental and research development. CHARLES W. MOORMAN JR., vice president-employee relations, was elected vice president-information technology, succeeding GERALD C. DURAND, who is retiring.

\ FRANK K. TURNER has been named vice president-product development for CSX Transportation Inc. Turner will be help develop new product lines in key marketing areas. Turner, 54, began his railroad career in 1969 with the Norfolk and Western Railway (now Norfolk Southern Corp.), where he was in senior operating positions in Roanoke and Decatur, Ill. In 1988 he was named vice president for the Mid-South Railroad. A year later, he was named president and chief operating officer. CSX Transportation operates in 20 states, the District of Columbia and Ontario. It is a unit of Richmond-based CSX Corp.
