A staff assistant in the office of Gov. Douglas Wilder was crowned Sunday as the 1994 Miss Virginia-USA.

Patricia A. Southall, 22, of Richmond, was chosen from 41 contestants in a pageant held at Virginia Intermont College.

Southall, a 1992 graduate of James Madison University, won about $15,000 in cash and prizes. She will represent Virginia in the Miss USA pageant in February in Texas.

The first runner-up was Susan E. Robinson, 22, of Lynchburg. The second runner-up was Meredith R. Blankenship, 20, of Hurley in Buchanan County.
