Police said the child, who was still being seen by a physician late Sunday night, accompanied the man several blocks on foot after he acted interested in making a purchase.
Police would not say what the girl was selling, because several youngsters also were conducting door-to-door sales Sunday. They did not say where she walked with the man, except that it was in the vicinity of Tazewell and Stewart avenues.
They said the girl "showed signs of sexual molestation," but otherwise did not appear to be harmed. They said she gave them the first name of the man she said attacked her. The search was continuing around midnight.
