WILDER SEEKS MORE VA. INVESTMENT FROM JAPAN

Gov. Douglas Wilder will ask Japanese companies to invest more in Virginia, an official said Monday.

Takeo Baba of the Virginia Far East office in Tokyo said Virginia has opportunities for companies working with high technology, because it has a National Aeronautics and Space Administration research center and a shipyard in the state.

Wilder, speaking at a two-day meeting of the Japan-U.S. Southeast Association, said Japanese companies can improve their business success in the United States by contributing more to the development of communities where they operate.

Wilder arrived Sunday in Osaka after visiting Germany. His next stop is China on Wednesday.
