ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY

The Virginia Department of Transportation's Adopt-a-Highway program will celebrate its fifth anniversary with the Great State Trash Off Oct. 16.

On that day, thousands of Virginians, led by Adopt-a-Highway volunteers, will clean up litter along area roads, in parks, streams bike trails, waterways and even their own backyards.

Virginia's Adopt-a-Highway program is the second-largest in the country.

Approximately 500 miles of roads and highways have been adopted by individuals and groups in the New River Valley. Call (800) 774-3382.
