OBIT POWELL, ALFRED S.
POWELL, Alfred S., ("Al"), 63, of Roanoke County, died Tuesday, October 5,
1993. Al served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Mindoro during
the Korean Conflict, was a former Virginia State Trooper, served as a safety
director for Tyson-Holly Farms in the Richmond area and was a retired
inspector for the U.S. Department of Labor. He was a member of Graham
Christian Church, Bluefield, Va., a member of Harmon Masonic Lodge #222,
Bluefield, Va., and the Roanoke Scottish Rite Bodies. Surviving are his wife,
Fryda Keyser Powell; his son, W. Kelly Powell, Roanoke; his daughter and
son-in-law, Theresa P. and John Piurkowsky, Charleston, S.C.; a brother, H.
Randolph Powell and wife, Kathy, North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two sisters, Alice P.
Chambers, Daleville, Martha P. Dillon and husband, James, Roanoke; also
several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South
Chapel, Friday, October 8, 1993, 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jack E. Musick
officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor, with
a graveside service at 2 p.m. Masonic grave rites will be conducted by
Covington Lodge #171. The family will receive friends Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m.
and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel.
