PARTIERS POISONED AT BIRTHDAY BASH

Jeanette Cadwallender planned the perfect surprise birthday party for her husband. She flew in relatives from Australia for the party in Hollywood, Md., and the weather was perfect.

But on Sunday, the day after Nick Cadwallender's 40th birthday, the Fredericksburg man, his 8-year-old son and his brother fell ill.

About 30 of Cadwallender's 60 guests became sick, as did dozens of other guests from a wedding reception for 150 people Saturday in Caroline County, according to health authorities.

Oinkers Away Barbecue, a Spotsylvania County restaurant, supplied barbecued meat for both affairs. Manager Forrest Linton said the restaurant is cooperating with a Health Department investigation and hopes the probe will clear Oinkers Away.

"Some birthday," Cadwallender said. "It will be the last party I give for a long time."
