Our firm had had steady and continued growth. We hired five lawyers this year and four more to begin next summer. I don't know of any lawyer west of Richmond laid off for economic reasons.
Law firms laying off are those that have high commitment to mergers and acquisitions and to real estate syndicates in cities like Chicago, New York and Los Angeles.
Talfourd H. Kemper, Woods, Rogers and Hazlegrove:
I'm aware that's going on in major metropolitan areas. I am not aware of any of that taking place in the Roanoke area. Our firm just hired five more lawyers this year.
Mark Feldmann, Glenn, Flippin, Feldmann and Darby:
It isn't happening at our firm. In fact, we just added another lawyer last month. It's not happening in Roanoke to my knowledge. It hasn't hit here yet.
G. Marshall Mundy, Mundy, Rogers and Frith:
We're extremely busy and like being a nice, compact size. I'm not aware in our area of any firms laying off or terminating. The firms we're dealing with seem to be plenty busy. - MAG POFF
