POLICE CAR COLLIDES WITH TURNING VEHICLE

A two-car accident on Melrose Avenue involving a police cruiser sent two people to the hospital early Friday night.

With lights flashing, Roanoke police officer M.E. Hodges was attempting to pass a car driven by Eugene B. Casey Jr., 26, of Roanoke at 17th Street when the two cars collided in the left lane.

Traffic officer J.W. Tardy said Friday night that extensive damage was done to both vehicles.

Hodges and Casey were treated and released from Roanoke Memorial Hospital, according to hospital officials.

Melrose was closed to traffic for almost an hour after the accident.

Tardy said no charges had been filed but an investigation was continuing.
