MAGNA VISTA RALLIES TO WIN

Magna Vista rallied in the final half to beat Patrick County 57-49 in a Piedmont District girls' basketball game Thursday.

Angie Morton scored 15 points to lead the Warriors (11-2, 8-2) and got support from Kathleen Speakman with 12 and Tanesia Kellam with 11.

Magna Vista trailed 37-36 entering the fourth quarter but outscored Patrick County 21-12 in the final period.

Patrick County (2-11, 2-8) was paced by Amy Nelson who had a game-high 21 points. \

Bassett 73

DRY FORK - The top-ranked team in Timesland just keeps rolling along.

Every player scored for Bassett (12-0, 10-0) en route to a Piedmont District whipping over the host Trojans.

The Bengals jumped to a 27-8 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

Aimee Barker led Bassett with 20 points. \

Rockbridge County 32

LEXINGTON - Jenny Gates led an offensive assault with 20 points as the Cavaliers, ranked second in Timesland, downed the Wildcats in a Blue Ridge District game.

Sara Moore added 13 points, Ashley Moore had 11 and Summer Plunkett had 11 as Lord Botetourt (12-1) led 40-19 at halftime and never looked back.

Rockbridge County (5-7) got 13 points from Sara Dooley. \

Rural Retreat 80

RURAL RETREAT - Ten players scored as the fifth-ranked Indians whipped the visiting Cavaliers in a Hogoheegee District game.

Cassie Phipps scored 16 points, and Beth Ketner added 15 for Rural Retreat (12-0, 9-0). Tanya Tarter added 10 points and 12 rebounds in the winning effort. \

Grayson County 17

Tammy Cox scored 17 points, matching the Blue Devils' output by herself, as the Maroon Tide rolled in the Mountain Empire District.

Jaclyn Dickens added 10 points for Galax (8-3, 8-2).

Grayson County's record slipped to 1-10 overall and in the district. \

Fort Chiswell 48

PEARISBURG - Tomika Saunders had 19 points and 10 rebounds as Giles beat Fort Chiswell in a Mountain Empire District game.

Gina Claytor added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Giles (3-8 overall, 3-7 in the district).

Amy Lyons had 10 points for Fort Chiswell (5-6, 5-5). \
