TEACHER OF THE WEEK

Jerry Huffman says he loves working with children and he wants to make sure the seventh-graders in his math and humanities classes know it. Huffman says establishing personal relationships with his pupils motivates them to do well in school. "When kids know you like them, they'll do a lot more for you," he said.

"Mr. Huffman always takes a few minutes before the bell and talks to his pupils. He will always have a special place in my heart, and I could never forget him," said the pupil who nominated him.

Huffman, who has taught for 15 years, said he enjoys the atmosphere in a school. "I always knew I'd teach; I would never do anything else," he said.

Huffman who in his spare time rides his bike and works in the yard, enjoys sharing stories about his Yorkshire terrier, Frances, with his class.
