Because of the size of his district, which stretches from Bath County to Pulaski County, Trumbo set up a legislative office where people in the western end could call with concerns or issues they wanted to raise with him.
Alma Holston, his legislative assistant, handles the calls and has been moving with the office along Main Street.
In its first quarters at 67 W. Main St., opened a few months after Trumbo's election in 1991, it had enough space to host periodic health screenings, YMCA exercise sessions and classes offered by the Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley.
Trumbo and Holston also made space available for the Pulaski Main Street program, when the town hired Roscoe Cox as its director last year.
The Main Street program proved so successful that the vacant store that Trumbo had rented for his Pulaski quarters was sold. The office and Pulaski Main Street moved to a smaller office a few doors away at 59 W. Main St., and the Main Street program recently moved into its own facility across the street.
Now that second office has gotten a tenant. It is occupied by RP Collectibles, offering knives, clocks, glassware and non-sports cards.
Trumbo's office has relocated to the Signet Bank building on the corner of Main Street and Washington Avenue, on the upper floor.
"This makes my third move," Holston said. "I don't think I'll have to be moving for a while."
Holston had been used to looking out at the restored Pulaski County courthouse at the other offices. "I will miss the frontage on the street," she said. "But the way the town is booming and things are going, there soon will be no office space left on Main Street."
The telephone number for the office remains the same, 980-2741. A recorder is available to leave messages if Holston is not in.
Currently Holston is dividing her time between Trumbo's office and local Republican headquarters, also on Main Street. After the Nov. 2 election, she will spend more time at the office.
