VA. GETS $4.5 MILLION FOR FAMILIES IN NEED

The state has received a $4.5 million federal grant to provide support services for families in need, the office of Gov. Douglas Wilder announced.

The Department of Health and Human Services grant will be administered by the Comprehensive Health Investment Project of Virginia.

CHIP funds support low-income families with young children by providing primary care health services and other family support services.

The CHIP network has eight programs in the state serving Richmond, the Roanoke area, the Radford area, Norfolk, the Williamsburg area, Chesapeake, the Charlottesville area and the Abingdon-Bristol area. - Associated Press
