N.C. COLLEGE STUDENT SHOT ON WAY THROUGH DANVILLE

A North Carolina college student was shot early Monday after he and a companion stopped at a convenience store, police said.

Patrick Bonholme, 20, of Salisbury, N.C., was shot in the back of the head.

He was in stable condition at Danville Regional Medical Center, said a hospital spokesman.

Police Capt. Claude Slayton said Bonholme and Hampton Taliaferro, 20, of West Point, were returning to Livingstone College in Salisbury when they stopped at the store about 2:20 a.m.

The students told police they were approached by a carload of six people outside the Airport Express Mart.

The occupants pulled guns on the students, and two of them got into the students' car.

The vehicles were driven away from the store, and the abductors demanded money and shot Bonholme, Slayton said.

Bonholme was able to drive to a nearby house and call for help. Taliaferro, who was not injured, ran to another house for help. - Associated Press
