Du Pont heir to talk to Martinsville union
MARTINSVILLE - A du Pont heir who has sided with union workers against the company management is to address union workers this afternoon at DuPont's nylon plant in Martinsville.
Lewis du Pont Smith, 36, offered to speak to the 900-member Martinsville Nylon Employees Union, said President Clinton Jennings.
A flier promoting Smith's speech says he is "defending the mine workers in Southwest Virginia against Consolidated Coal," which is 50 percent owned by DuPont, and "defending the International Brotherhood Workers against DuPont Company cutbacks."
Last month, DuPont said it would cut 575 union jobs in the plant's nylon operation. - Associated Press
