The defending junior league champions in the Pulaski County Youth Soccer League are 2-0 on the young season.
The Rowdies have turned back the Pulaski Hornets 4-2 and the Pulaski Comets 10-0.
\ CONOR QUINLAN, the league's MVP in 1992, already has four goals. He had three of them - a hat trick -against the Comets.
Fellow Rowdie CORY NEWMAN also has four goals.
Four players have two goals after the first week of play: CHAD PIEDISCALZO and STEPHEN BRUBAKER of the Hornets, DREW COVEY of the Dublin Roadrunners, and ANDY PRATT of the Draper Fury.
Piediscalzo is the county's all-time youth soccer scoring leader with 187 goals in his career.
In the major league, Pulaski Top Gun and Draper Lightning have lived up to their nicknames as well, posting 2-0 records.
\ JUSTIN BARKLEY of the Lightning leads the league with four goals, including a hat trick against the Dublin Odyssey. JOSH BOWLING of Top Gun and BRYCE CLARK of the Dublin Neon Bandits have three goals.
Three teams emerged unbeaten from the first week of play in the minor league. The Bandits, Bombers and Roadrunners all were 2-0.
Overall, the program has 23 teams and more than 350 participants in the three divisions.
The teams from Pulaski opened strong in early-season action in the Pulaski County Sandlot Football League.
The Pulaski Blue Raiders beat the defending champion Riverlawn Rams 34-8 in the junior division opener for both teams. TRAVIS ROOP, making his junior division debut, scored three touchdowns and a point-after-touchdown and rushed for 140 yards. Roop is the all-time leading scorer in Pulaski County youth football with 254 points.
\ KWASI SCOTT added two touchdowns, a PAT and 100 yards rushing in the triumph, while ROGER PENNINGTON had a pair of fumble recoveries.
Riverlawn rebounded with a 19-7 win over the Dublin Chiefs behind a two-touchdown performance by TROY MINTER.
In the pee wee division, the Dublin Cowboys got past the Riverlawn Rams 18-13. ALAN WHEELING had a 60-yard punt return for the winning score. BRIAN BOOTH had a pair of touchdown runs for the Cowboys.
The Pulaski Red Raiders later shut out the Rams 13-0, getting touchdowns from ADAM ROOP and BRANDON HAMBLIN.
In the newly formed mite division, the Pulaski Gold Raiders beat the Rams 40-0 as CHRIS LEWIS and SHAWN BROWN each scored two touchdowns.
The local team tennis league has started its season at the Dedmon Center courts at Radford University.
Top Gun and Net Set have sprinted out to 2-0 starts. The women's doubles teams of SUSAN COX and SUE TEEL for Top Gun and SUSAN OCCIANO and BEVERLY SINGLETON for Net Set are perfect so far this season.
After three weeks of play, four teams remain perfect in Christiansburg's fall volleyball leagues. Three of them - Mount Tabor, St. Paul III and Main Street Baptist I - are in the Co-Ed Church B League. Spots hasn't lost in the Co-Ed Open League. All are 6-0.
Russell Apparel won the tournament championship of the Radford Fall Co-Ed softball league. Russell downed unbeaten regular-season champ Newman's 24-4.
