Georgia-Pacific Corp., Atlanta-based forest-products company with
operations in Bedford County and a distribution center in Roanoke, reported a
third-quarter net loss of $36 million, or 42 cents per share, compared with a
net loss of $174 million, or $2.01 per share, in the 1992 quarter. Excluding
the effect of asset sales, total operating profits were $204 million, slightly
less than the 1992 quarter of $209 million, but up from $188 million in the
second quarter. Sales were $3 billion, vs. $3.1 billion for the 1992 period.
For the nine months, net income was $2 million, or 2 cents per share, vs. a
net loss of $228 million, or $2.64 per share, for the 1992 period.
