STANLEY FURNITURE

Stanleytown-based Stanley Furniture Company Inc., maker of upper-medium-priced residential wood furniture, reported third-quarter net income of $1.2 million, or 26 cents per share, compared with $154,000, or 5 cents per share, in the 1992 quarter. For the nine months ended Sept. 26, net income was $3.6 million, or $1.03 per share, compared with a loss of $13,000, or 1 cent per share, in the 1992 period.

Net sales in the quarter rose 8.8 percent from the prior year. For the nine months, net sales fell 1.7 percent, because of the company's de-emphasis of hotel/motel furniture and the disruption of production at the Stanleytown plant after a Feb. 12 fire.
