EMISSARY SELLS VA. IN KOREA

From lessons about Virginia's history and geography, to commercial facts and figures, Sang-Min Woo sells the image of Virginia and its ports in Korea.

Woo is the director of the Virginia Port Authority's trade office in Seoul.

"He is the commonwealth of Virginia in Korea," John Covaney, marketing director for the Virginia Port Authority, said while in Korea this week on Gov. Douglas Wilder's trade mission. Wilder is to return home today from his 19-day trip to Europe and Asia.

"The governor is a good salesman," Woo said. "His presence demonstrated that Virginia's top leader is committed. It also shows how importantly the Seoul office is treated by the governor."

Besides his primary job of promoting the ports, Woo said the office also fields numerous inquiries about trade, agriculture, and investment inquires.

He is active in community affairs and seminars, which helps market the state. "I'm advertising Virginia, and I have to educate people about Jamestown, the Civil War and Virginia as the home of presidents," Woo said.
