"Since negotiations resumed [after a weeklong break], the parties have met continuously in long sessions" from Wednesday through Sunday, said Usery spokesman Herb Fishgold said.
The two sides also met for about 3 1/2 hours Monday in Washington, D.C., Fishgold said.
The break was called because of "an untimely death" in the family of B.R. "Bobby" Brown, chief negotiator for the Bituminous Coal Operators Association and chairman, president and chief executive officer of CONSOL Inc. of Upper St. Clair, Pa.
Fishgold did not say when the sessions would resume, other than "as soon as possible." - Associated Press
