SUSPECT UNDERGOES SURGERY

A suspect in a foiled Franklin County robbery underwent surgery Monday morning to remove the remnants of a bullet from his leg.

Andrew Star Glick, 19, was returned to Franklin County Jail, where he was first taken after being arrested Friday night on charges he attempted to rob and murder William Odell, said James H. Crooke, a Franklin County investigator.

Crooke said Glick and a companion, armed with pistols, were about to enter Odell's house Thursday afternoon when a gunbattle ensued.

Odell, 57, blew the windows out of the bandits' getaway car with a pistol he kept on his dining room table.

Investigators found two of the bullets he fired. They figure one of the other four struck the suspect or the car.

They also found a 9mm shell casing, apparently fired by one of the suspects, near a walk outside Odell's home in southern Franklin County. About two hours after the men fled, Glick checked in to a Waynesboro hospital, saying he'd been shot by an unknown man along the interstate.

He checked out at 1:30 a.m. Friday before undergoing any treatment, but sheriff's investigators in Prince William County were able to track him down by using a forwarding address he left with the hospital.

He was arrested at his home in Manassas about 7:30 p.m. Friday and returned to Franklin County on Saturday night.

He was admitted on Monday to Rocky Mount Memorial Hospital where, police said, bullet fragments were removed from his leg.

Crooke said they have not located the getaway car or the other suspect, but they have the name of the second suspect and have issued warrants for his arrest.

Officers with the Prince William County Sheriff's Department recovered a 9mm pistol in the house where they apprehended Glick. Glick was charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempted murder and attempted robbery of Odell. He is being held at Franklin County Jail.
