DYING WORDS HELP IN SUSPECT'S ARREST

Police arrested a Newport News man on a murder charge after a dying gunshot victim blurted out a clue - the name "Mike D."

Michael Lee Williams, 18, was charged Monday with the murder of Anthony Lamont Bland. Williams was in jail Monday in lieu of $70,000 bond.

Bland, 18, died at Sentara Hampton General Hospital on Sunday night almost two hours after one of six bullets that riddled an apartment door tore into the back of his hip.

Newport News police spokeswoman Lynn James said Williams admitted using the street name "Mike D." An affidavit filed by police for a search warrant said Williams had been looking for Bland because Bland owed him some money.

Williams also was charged with shooting into an occupied building and using a firearm in a felony.
