OBIT LONG, ESSIE FERGUSON

LONG, Essie Ferguson, 79, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, October 17, 1993. She was born in Callaway to the late Major Ferguson and Amanda Webb Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Long. Survivors include two daughters, Angeline L. (Norman) Jones, Jeanette L. (Glenn) Brown, both of Roanoke; three sons, James D. Long, Washington, D.C., Morris C. (Beatrice) Long, Severna Park, Md., Robert T. Long, Roanoke; 15 grandchildren, Chantay Jones, Richmond, Eugene (Deidre) Jones, Crofton, Md., Mandell (Marcella) Jones, Clifford Long, Valerie Long, Reginald Long, Wayne Long, all of Roanoke, Rodney Long, Philadelphia, Pa., Jeffrey Long, Severna Park, Md., Stacey Long, Jermaine Long, Shannon (Crystal) Brown, Kanika Brown, Tariko Brown, Dion E. Long, all of Roanoke; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Naomi Hamilton, Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Long, Magnolia (James) Irving, Grace L. Murray, Elise L. Terry, all of Roanoke, Mattie L. Bryant, Spring Valley, N.Y., Irene L. Stephens, Philadelphia, Pa., Lillian L. (Junious) Woodard, Richmond; two brothers-in-law, George (Arletha) Long, Jack (Elizabeth) Long, both of Roanoke; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives; devoted family friends, Ernell Glasby, Sherlene Bowles, Peggy Board; and many other friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Sweet Union Baptist Church. Rev. E.T. Burton will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday 7 to 8 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
