TENANT-LANDLORD RELATIONS IS TOPIC OF VIDEO PLANS

To foster better relations between landlords and off-campus students, Radford University plans to produce and distribute a videotape that details the rights and responsibilities both of prospective student tenants and landlords.

Vice President for Student Affairs Paul Harris outlined the proposal Monday at a meeting of the City-University Joint Commission on Public Affairs, of which he is a co-chairman.

Harris expressed hopes that the presentation would "reduce the opportunity for misunderstanding" between renters and property owners.

Plans call for placing copies of the videotape in rental offices for prospective tenants to view.

While it's in the early stages of development, Harris the program would likely cover the basics, such as how to read and understand a lease agreement, tenant parking, damage deposits and maintaining good relations with year-round neighbors.

Harris said the videotape also might be a model for other schools.
