GILES UPSETS AUBURN

Heather Wilburn sank two foul shots with 15 seconds left and Tomika Saunders stole Auburn's inbounds pass with 10 seconds to go as Giles upset the Eagles 62-59 in a Mountain Empire District girls' basketball game Tuesday night.

Auburn (10-5 overall, 9-4 in the district) led 48-43 after three quarters, but the Spartans outscored the Eagles 19-11 in the last period.

Giles (5-10, 5-8) got 14 points from Gina Claytor, 13 from Wilburn and 10 from Saunders.

Angie Simpkins led Auburn with 27 points and Renay Gardner chipped in 12.

Rocky Gap 47

FLOYD - Lynette Nolley scored 13 points to bring her career total to 1,124 and set a school scoring record as the Buffaloes (15-1, 13-0) routed the Eagles in the Mountain Empire District. Kelly Fteffard set the old record in 1984 with 1,117 points.

Melissa Cantrell scored 20 points, Leigh-Ann Pursifull 12 and Cherie Quesenberry 10 for Floyd County. \

Galax 44

SHAWSVILLE - Brandi Alexander sank a 15-footer with 12 seconds left as the Shawnees edged the Maroon Tide. Both teams are 9-4 in the district.

Tammy Cox scored 15, Jaclyn Dickens 14 and Christy Owen 11 for Galax.

Graham 42

HILLSVILLE - Paula Nester scored 12 points as the Cavaliers pulled out a non-district victory over Graham (6-10). With 30 seconds left and the score 43-42, Gina Hill was fouled and hit both free throws to seal the game for Carroll County (8-6). \

Glenvar 58

Craig County 29

Toree Morris scored 25 points to lead the Highlanders past the visiting Rockets as Glenvar remained undefeated in the Pioneer District.

Marilea Hale chipped in 13 and Kristi Robinson had nine assists for the Highlanders (13-3, 8-0). Chrissy Robertson scored 17 for Craig County (4-9, 3-5). \

Narrows 54

Fort Chiswell 37

NARROWS - Melinda Fleeman scored 27 and Suzanne Webb added 18 as the Green Wave rolled past the Pioneers in a Mountain Empire District game. Fleeman scored 12 of her points in a 23-point fourth quarter for Narrows (6-9, 5-8). Fort Chiswell (7-8, 6-7) had 11 scorers, but none in double figures. \
