"I was supposed to start my new job on Monday, but when I found out I had won on Sunday, I told them to give it to somebody else. I'm just that kind of person."
Hall purchased one of three winning tickets and will receive $1,565,774 over 20 years. That comes out to more than $52,000 per year after taxes.
She seldom plays the lottery, she said Tuesday, so she had no particular system for picking numbers. "This is the first time in a year I've bought a lottery ticket."
When she read the winning numbers - 4-13-20-24-33-40 - in Sunday's newspaper, she said she couldn't believe it was happening to her. "I asked my daughter to check the numbers" to be sure she had won.
Although Hall, 32, has no plans for the money, her children have some ideas. "My daughter, Tabatha, wants a '65 Ford Mustang when she gets her learner's permit in December, and my son, Michael, wants a go-cart."
Hall said she and her husband, Bruce, who is retired, enjoy their neighborhood and have no plans to move. "I'm just going to take some time and figure out what I want to do. We're just chilling right now."
Hall bought the ticket at the Turbo Food Mart at 4101 Plantation Road N.E.
Store clerk Sheila Honaker, who sold Hall the ticket and knows her from frequent visits, said, "It couldn't have happened to a nicer person."
The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Carl E. Jones and Etta F. Shealor of Blacksburg also chose the winning combination and will share their third of the jackpot. They purchased their ticket at White Creek Market on U.S. 11/460 in Shawsville.
It has been seven months since there has been a Lotto winner in the Roanoke area.
