SCHOOL-DEATH SUSPECT MAY BE TRIED AS ADULT

Administrators and students at Kecoughtan High School expressed disbelief at the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old student outside the school.

"It makes no sense to me," said principal Thomas Bailey, who worked in vain to save Javal Allen after the attack Monday. Allen, stabbed in the neck, ran inside, staggered down a hall and collapsed in a cafeteria filled with students.

"Why would a high school boy want to stab another high school boy?" Bailey said.

Police arrested a 15-year-old student and charged the youngster with murder. Commonwealth's Attorney Christopher W. Hutton said he would seek to have the arrested youth tried as an adult.

Some students said the youths were arguing over a girl.
