TEEN WOUNDED IN ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING

A Roanoke teen suffered a severe bullet wound to the neck Thursday when he was accidentally shot.

Randy Justin Edwards, 17, went through several hours of surgery at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was listed in very serious condition in the neuro intensive-care unit Thursday night, according to the hospital's nursing supervisor.

Roanoke police said Edwards and Carl Robert Davis, 18, were "playing around" with a .38-caliber handgun at Davis' home in the 1500 block of Riverside Terrace Southeast on Thursday morning when Edwards was shot.

Davis told police he didn't mean to fire the gun.

No charges have been filed in the case.
