OBIT-REID, CHARLES GILMORE, ("GIL")
REID, Charles Gilmore, ("Gil"), 92, of Salem, passed away Wednesday,
October 20, 1993 at a local hospital. He is survived by a son, William W. Reid
of Salem; a daughter, Claudine R. Lemon of Salem; a daughter-in-law, Louise R.
Reid of Vinton, the recent widow of his son, C. Gordon Reid; eight
grandchildren, Billy G. Reid, Leslie W. Reid, David L. Reid of Salem, Robert
J. Reid of Troutville, Dalton L. Reid of Christiansburg, Sharon R. Stanley of
Draper, Susan R. Prewitt of Roanoke and Becky R. Showalter of Shawsville; 12
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include
Maggie Weincyzk and family of Salem. The family of Mr. Reid wishes to express
their appreciation for the loving care provided by these very special friends.
Mr. Reid was widowed by June E. Reid in 1961 and again by Ethel I. Reid in
1984. A native of Rockbridge County, Mr. Reid lived most of his life in
Lexington where he worked for and was retired from the Columbia Gas Company.
He was an avid fan of music and gardening and was an active member of Manley
Memorial Baptist Church until his move to Salem in 1986. Here he became an
active member of Seneca Baptist Church in Elliston. Graveside services will be
conducted by the Rev. Virgil McHone, pastor of Seneca Baptist Church, at 11
a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 1993 at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church
cemetery in Lexington. Friends may call at Harrison's Funeral Home, Lexington,
from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
