BLAND - Jaclyn Dickens had a game-high 19 points to lead the Maroon Tide to a Mountain Empire District victory.
Galax (10-6, 10-4) led 28-12 at halftime and never looked back. Tammy Cox added 15 points and Annie Hart had 10.

MONETA - The Golden Eagles (13-2, 13-2) surged to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised past the winless Knights in a Seminole District game.
Deena Mitchell had a game-high 11 points and Courtney Hurd added 10 for Staunton River, which led 31-10 at halftime.
No Buckingham player scored more than eight points. \

PEARISBURG - The Shawnees jumped to a 21-8 lead after one quarter and went on to beat the Spartans in a Mountain Empire District contest.
Kelley Ryan and Brandy Alexander poured in 12 points apiece for Shawsville (10-6, 10-4). Giles (5-11, 5-9) closed the gap in the second half but missed the first free throw in bonus situations five times in the final period. The Spartans shot 13-for-28 on free throws in the game. \

JoAnn Helton scored 24 points, and the Cougars used a box-and-one defense to frustrate the Rockets' Chrissy Robertson in a Pioneer District victory.
Charlee Laws dug in and held Robertson to nine points, well below her average, as Covington (6-9, 6-3) took control early. Bessy Laws added 14 points and Nancy Shawver scored 13 for the Cougars.
