FRANKLIN COUNTY WINNING STREAK HITS 2 GAMES

Franklin County has a winning streak going after Friday night's 28-22 non-district football victory over Halifax County.

John Muse's 51-yard touchdown run with 4:31 remaining lifted the Eagles, who last week ended a 23-game losing streak with a 30-8 victory over Cave Spring. The losing streak had been the longest current streak in Group AAA.

After Halifax County went ahead 22-21, the Eagles (2-5) took four plays to go 64 yards for the winning touchdown.

Halifax County (0-7) took the ensuing kickoff and drove to the Franklin County 24, but time expired.

Tailback Stacy Helms carried 25 times for 131 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Franklin County. Muse finished with 74 yards on 12 carries.

Avery Williams had two touchdown runs for Halifax County. \

MONETA - A late touchdown and successful onside kick gave the Golden Eagles hopes of their first victory of the season, but Nelson County intercepted a pass with just over two minutes remaining to clinch the Seminole District victory.

Staunton River (0-7 overall, 0-7 district) held a 8-0 first-quarter lead after a 9-yard touchdown run by Derek Barnes, but the Governors (1-6, 1-6) seemingly had the game under control after taking a 22-8 lead in the fourth quarter.

Jeff English's 4-yard touchdown run with 2:43 left cut the deficit to six points.
