WILLIAM AND MARY RIPS VILLANOVA 51-17

Shawn Knight threw for two touchdowns and ran for two scores Saturday as William and Mary beat Villanova 51-17 in the Yankee Conference.

Knight completed nine passes for 131 yards with one interception. The junior quarterback also had 74 yards on 10 carries.

The Tribe (5-2 overall, 3-1 Yankee) rolled up 433 yards on the ground while limiting Villanova (2-5, 1-5) to minus-6 yards rushing.

It took William and Mary only 52 seconds to score its first touchdown. After the Tribe recovered a fumble of the opening kickoff at the Wildcats' 14, Derek Fitzgerald scored on a run up the middle on the first play. Fitzgerald rushed for 189 yards and another score on 20 carries.

Villanova's offense came through the air as Brad Parpon completed 18 of 29 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown, an 8-yarder to Anthony Cowsette.

After Parpon's scoring pass midway through the second quarter, William and Mary ran off 37 points to lead 51-10 with 9 minutes, 51 seconds remaining in the game.

Corey Ludwig caught Knight's touchdown passes of 11 and 37 yards.

Guilford 14

EMORY - Eric Montgomery completed 17 of 27 passes for 242 yards as the Wasps dominated the Quakers in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Chris Turner of Emory & Henry (6-2, 4-1) opened the scoring in the first quarter on an 8-yard pass from Montgomery.

J.J. Rogers scored for Guilford (1-6, 0-3) on a 90-yard kickoff return.

Another Montgomery touchdown pass, this one to Todd Woodall, and a 28-yard run by the Quakers' Jeff Hatch tied the score at 14 before the end of the first quarter.

Hatch was tackled in the end zone late in the third quarter for a safety to bring the score to 30-14.

With three seconds to play, Thomas Nelson returned a blocked field-goal attempt 77 yards to score the Wasps' final touchdown.

Washington and Lee 23

SEWANEE, TENN. - The Generals took a 14-point lead in the second quarter and then let it get away in a loss to the Tigers.

Washington and Lee (0-6) bolted to an early lead behind touchdown runs of 46 yards by Rich Achee and 29 yards by Jon Wagner. Tom Mason rumbled for the other touchdown run, and it looked as if the Generals were on the way to their first victory of the season.

Sewanee came back and tied the score at 20 early in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run, but Drew Thomas gave W & L the lead again with five minutes remaining when he nailed a 39-yard field goal.

Sewanee scored the winning points with a minute remaining in the game on a 6-yard run.

Mason led the Generals in rushing with 91 yards on 26 carries. Freshman quarterback Brooks Fischer was 7-of-15 passing for 104 yards, but he threw three interceptions.

\ Randolph-Macon 21, Davidson 16: In Davidson, N.C., Andrew Bush threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to David Hughes with 37 seconds left as the Yellow Jackets rallied for the victory.

The Wildcats (4-3) took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on Shane Mills' 1-yard scoring run and a 27-yard field goal by Drew Fassett.

But Randolph-Macon (4-2-1) began to close the gap in the second half, starting with Dexter Hurt's 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Davidson's Richard Howell then scored on a 38-yard run to put the Wildcats up 16-7, but it wasn't enough.

The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the fourth quarter to win the game. Both touchdowns came on passes from Bush to Hughes.

\ Norfolk State 21, Virginia Union 9: In Richmond, Stanley Johnson ran for 118 yards on 19 carries and scored a touchdown as the Spartans defeated the Panthers in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Norfolk State (5-4-1, 2-4-1) controlled the ball for 41:33 and gained a total of 399 yards. Virginia Union (2-5-1, 2-2-1) had 356 total yards, but was hampered by 11 penalties for 74 yards.

\ Hampden-Sydney 28, Catholic U. 14: In Washington, Cetric Gayles ran for touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters to lead the Tigers past the Cardinals. Hamden-Sydney is 5-2.

\ Hampton U. 46, Tuskegee 12: In Hampton, Todd Harvey scored three touchdowns and rushed for 98 yards on 18 carries as the Pirates defeated the Golden Tigers.

Hampton (8-0) led 25-0 at the end of the first quarter.

\ Frostburg State 35, Bridgewater 0: In Bridgewater, Andre Parker scored on an 89-yard kickoff return and a 49-yard pass as the Bobcats beat the Eagles. Frostburg State (7-0) gained 416 yards on the ground while limiting Bridgewater (2-5) to 54 yards total offense.

\ Virginia State 42, Elizabeth City State 17: In Ettrick, Gregory Clark threw five touchdown passes as the Trojans dumped the Vikings in a CIAA game. Virginia State (7-1, 5-1) gained a total of 429 yards while limiting Elizabeth City State (1-7, 1-5) to 74 yards.
