BURUNDI'S EXILED LEADER SEEKING FOREIGN TROOPS TO RESTORE ORDER

The ousted prime minister of Burundi appealed Sunday for foreign military intervention to restore order, and the Red Cross reported massacres in this Central African nation.

The appeal by Prime Minister Sylvie Kinigi came amid signs that the military coup was beginning to weaken in its fourth day. Along with suppressing Burundi's infant democracy, the coup reportedly has led to renewed fighting between the Hutu and Tutsi tribes, one of Africa's goriest ethnic rivalries.
