HOUSE CREATES AGENCY FOR ENDANGERED SPECIES

The House voted Tuesday to create an agency to monitor endangered species after it accepted amendments to protect the rights of property owners.

The National Biological Survey Act, passed 255-165 and sent to the Senate, would set up an office in the Interior Department to study, monitor and catalogue America's plant and animal life. It would consolidate the current research efforts of eight separate bureaus. - Associated Press
