OBIT HUMPHREYS, WILLIAM RAPER SR.
HUMPHREYS, William Raper Sr., 92, of Rt. 1, Rural Retreat (Cedar Springs
Community), died Monday, October 25, 1993, in the Wythe County Community
Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Richardson Humphreys. He
was the son of the late Chester M. and Janie Wilson Humphreys. He is survived
by one daughter, Betty Jean Humphreys of Wytheville; two sons and
daughters-in-law, W. R., Jr. and Evangeline Humphreys, Paul L. and Maxine
Humphreys, all of Rural Retreat; five sisters, Margaret Dunford, Willie
Brogan, both of Wytheville, Belle White of Christiansburg, Janie Fisher of
Roanoke, Mary Mabry of Wilco, W.Va.; two brothers, Jack Humphreys, Woodrow
Humphreys, both of Max Meadows; three grandchildren, Curtis W. Humphreys,
David T. Humphreys, Annette Mabe; one great-grandchild, Stacey Burton. Funeral
services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Asbury United Methodist Church,
conducted by the Rev. Mrs. Patricia Edwards, with the interment in the church
cemetery. The remains will be placed in the church one hour before service
time. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Wednesday from
7 to 9 p.m. or at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Maxine
Humphreys at anytime. In lieu of flowers,donations may be made to the Rural
Retreat Emergency Services or to the Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery
fund. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
