An office spokesman said Thursday that Sam Tiano will retire Monday after 37 years with the VA, the last three as director of the Roanoke regional office.
Last month, the VA's Office of General Counsel found that Tiano subjected a woman employee to illegal sexual harassment. The woman had filed a complaint against him in April.
Tiano, 63, has been on personal leave since late April. He technically remained director of the Roanoke office while an investigation into the sexual harassment complaint was conducted.
Tiano's successor will be James Maye, director of the Southern Area office of the Veterans Benefits Administration in Jackson, Miss.
Maye, a Bassett native, has been with the VA since 1978. A former Marine Corps officer, he has served as assistant director of the Little Rock, Ark., and Roanoke regional offices and as director of the Boston and Los Angeles regional offices.
