HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Groups that have built Habitat Homes: During Habitat's first three years, 1987-89, the agency financed each of the eight homes it built and sought volunteers only to provide labor. Since then, churches and businesses have served as sponsors - raising most of the money and providing volunteer labor - for 23 houses.

Sponsoring organizations are: Roanoke Valley Homebuilders Association (three houses); Cave Spring Baptist Church (two); Cave Spring United Methodist Church (two); Presbyterian coalition (two); Virlina District, Church of the Brethren (two); West Salem Baptist Church (two); Christ Episcopal Church; Christ Lutheran Church/Lutheran Cooperative Ministry; Dominion Bank; Greene Memorial United Methodist Church; Lutheran Cooperative Ministry; Our Lady of Nazareth Roman Catholic Church; Roanoke District, United Methodist Church; St. Paul's Episcopal Church; St. John's Episcopal Church; and Windsor Hills United Methodist Church.
