ROCKBRIDGE CLINCHES SHARE OF TITLE

Rockbridge County used a steamrolling ground game, whipping Lord Botetourt 48-12 to clinch at least a tie for the Blue District District title in high school football Friday night.

The Wildcats (6-3 overall, 4-1 Blue Ridge) pounded out 356 yards on the ground, led by Woody Newman's 100 yards and one touchdown. Kenny Lewis added 90 yards on the ground and scored two touchdowns, one on a 37-yard interception return.

Lord Botetourt (5-3, 0-3) turned over the ball five times. \

Bassett 26

BASSETT - Evan Penn rushed for more than 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Warriors to the Piedmont District victory.

Penn scored on runs of 22 and 41 yards. He also converted five conversion kicks and ran for a two-point conversion.

Rodney Redd had an 11-yard touchdown run and threw a 52-yard scoring pass for Magna Vista (8-0, 7-0). \

Parry McCluer 24

Covington 6 COVINGTON - The host Cougars didn't take advantage of

good field position, and as a result stayed winless in the Pioneer District.

Covington (0-8, 0-3) got inside the Fighting Blues' 30-yard line four times, but converted only once. Despite only 193 yards total offense, Parry McCluer (7-1, 3-0) led 24-0 after three quarters, thanks to two Shaam Wheeler touchdown runs and a Bryan Sizemore 78-yard interception return.

Wheeler led all rushers with 97 yards on 21 carries. \

Patrick County 14

STUART - Quarterback Darrell Wilson accounted for 113 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Lancers to the Piedmont District victory over the Cougars.

Wilson completed six passes for 52 yards and rushed 12 times for 61. Solomon Paddyfote had 107 yards on 15 carries to lead Laurel Park (5-3, 4-3).

Patrick County (3-5, 2-5) got 152 rushing yards from Charles McClain.
