SCHRODER TO BE BOTETOURT ASSISTANT PROSECUTOR|

Doug Schroder, an assistant commonwealth's attorney for Pulaski County, has accepted a position with Botetourt County.

Schroder's last day in Pulaski County was Friday. He begins his new job as an assistant to the Botetourt commonwealth's attorney on Monday. He will work for Rob Hagan's office part time and do some private practice work as well.

Schroder had worked under Pulaski County's commonwealth attorney, Everett Shockley, for four years.

Schroder said he was making the career move for financial reasons.

``Financially, the state doesn't pay full-time or part-time [prosecutors] what they are worth,'' Schroder said.

Schroder was in Pulaski County Circuit Court on Friday to prosecute his last two official cases for the county. The defendant in the last case failed to appear in court.

Judge Dow Owens wished Schroder well in his new job, calling him a ``splendid attorney.''

``It's really been a pleasure working with you,'' Owens said. ``You're a credit to your profession.''
